Renovation work at Abington Library
Abington Library is entering a new phase in its life with development and repurposing of the extended area. Work begins in late September to create two new rooms at the rear of the main building, replacing the former Northants County mobile library service facilities. The creation of a new community hub compliments the support role already provided by the community managed library through partnership between the unitary authority and the Friends group volunteers.
Construction work should be completed by mid February2027. Early discussions with all parties involved in the project has focussed on minimum disruption to the library operation and the health and safety of library users in the coming months. Movement of materials and workers should not necessitate access through the library, certainly not during opening hours, and the development site will be sealed off to minimise impact on our public library space, books and people in general.
